alexlm
Hi, What days of the week are the best (less crowd, no group) to apply for a visa in Vientiane or Savhannaket? Thanks
Doiger
I was at savannakhet on Monday and not really any issue at all, opens at 9 am and I was out by 9 25 am. just make sure you have the proper documents and all are copied along with the originals or you will need to go out again to get copies and que again. shop across the road does all your copies and checks your documents for 80 baht. remeber if you going for a tourist visa you must have a proof of funds bank statement and proof of onward travel from Thailand or else you will get refused (at savannakhet you require these). darrendsd
The visa run companies go to Vientianne on Monday's and Thursday's so best to avoid there on them days As far as I know no visa run companies go to Savan so every day would be the same I guess apart from Friday which would be quieter as people have to wait until Monday to pick their PP's up
chowny77
At Savannakhet I found Tues, Weds and Thursday pretty quiet. It's not so much the consulate which is the problem but the lack of buses crossing over the bridge and very rude Laotian people pushing to get on the bus.

I agree the buses are a bit of a free for all but if your traveling alone it's not too bad, (a good bit of shoving and pushing like the locals do does the trick) took me 40 minutes from going through Thai immigration to being at the Thai consulate in savannakhet on Monday morning
overherebc
If everyone posted the least busy days wouldn't they become the busiest?

No, not that many people paying attention. It's such a pain in the (*& no matter what day, if only you could pay some money and have it dealt with by Thai people. Never read this before. Do you need an air ticket out of Thailand or can you just explain to them you are traveling overland? What sort of bank statement? or can you just flash some cash? Thanks and God Bless You.

You just need to prove confirmed onward travel from Thailand, It says at the consulate that it can be a flight ticket or bus ticket. your bank statement can be from any bank, does not need to be a Thai bank, just needs to show minimum of the equivalent of 20000 baht. they do not allow you to apply by just showing them cash. the information above is for savannakhet, not sure of the rules for other places. laochef
In Vientiane, by far, the best day is to apply on a Friday; and pick-up on the following Monday.

dubsky
I have done 3 trips tp Savannakhet and I was never asked for proof of bank statements or onward travel from Thailand. I have a Kasikornbank account. Will the updated Passbook do as bank proof, not sure what I can do about onward travel? I'm going to Vientiane. Any help thanks. If you are going to Vientiane you will not need financial proof or tickets since they are not asking for them.
Xobtsiwt
The stringent requirements at Savannakhet now being enforced clearly come from on high. How long that will be the case, or whether they will extend to other regional embassies and consulates remains to be seen. As it stands, the requirements, in addition to the usual: filled-in application form, passport with photocopy of personal detail page and 1 x photo (no fee charged for SETV until end-Feb - possibly to be extended?) are: photocopy of ticket out of Thailand (date is best to be within 3 months of date of visa issue, though this may not be rigidly enforced). Personally I wouldn't rely on a bus ticket - for example Hat Yai to Penang - being accepted. Others may have better info on this. photocopy of bank statement showing 20k Baht or equivalent as recent balance in account (I'd say within a few days of date of visa application). Note - last week, show-cash, even in one case 50k Baht - was not accepted. Note too that your name must be clearly visible. If you are young and have many previous visas, an itinerary for the duration of your stay may be requested. This is easily constructed and printed. "The stringent requirements eat Savannakhet now being enforced clearly come from on high." Maybe not coming from on high......The Consulate and staff may have become fed up with being so busy day after day and having to work so hard for their salaries. Maybe they just want the easy life they had before all these pesky farangs started queuing up every day.

Jeremy50
Vientiene on a Friday. Pick up Monday. Most people don't like to spend the weekend in Vientiane, for some reason. It's great for a few days and a welcome break from Thailand. Stay by the river, for good bars and restaurants, walks, parks etc. Don't stay near the embassy or 3 days will feel like eternity.

There's no hard and fast rule, but since so many requirements seem to be discretionary, personally at the moment I wouldn't push it beyond 90 days from the date you plan to enter Thailand.
