"Free" Driver updaters

Featured Replies

The "free' Driver-Updaters I tried will only update 1 driver for free. For all other obsolete drivers one has to pay. (Very funny.) The only thing "free" is the download.

- Any recommendable driver updater that updates all drivers for free ?

I use IOBIT driver booster.

Use the same for many many years  IOBIT driver booster

Just started using this, it looks pretty good. It says FREE but what is the red circled number 10 on the Activate Now key bottom right of app mean?

I think that's to buy the paid version.

SlimDrivers

Searching and individual updates (manually selected) are free.

There is some comfy "Plus" version which I never used/needed.

Not used since upgrading to W10.

I checked this one out and sadly decided to instal it, I should have known better at my age!

Much of the industry regards this as rogue software and it's easy to see why, it is massively difficult to uninstall completely and even specialised programs have difficulty trying to shut it down. The eventual fix to the problem is to start the PC in safe Mode and run Malwarebytes to remove PUP entries. So why would you want to uninstal it you ask? Well it says it's free but when you try to use the latest version it asks for money! My advice, don't go near it.

I was never bothered by this SW so didn't feel the need to uninstall ("shut down").

I invoke it manually if I feel the need.

It never surfaces/pops up otherwise.

Maybe what you describe is some "automatic search" option.

I explicitly stated that I DON'T use any comfort/plus version.

Never paid anything.

I used it for a while after recs on this forum and likewise never paid anything. After some early success in updating a few drivers on later manual runs unfortunately it kept wanting to try and update stuff which it then said I already had later versions.......

Using Win 7 and after a while I just binned it but don't remember any issues in doing so.
