February 6, 20179 yr Hi Guys, I have been trying to find an answer using the search function but can´t really find the answer I need. Maybe someone else has done what I plan to do: I will obtain my work permit soon to work as manager in my own business, a company ltd.( Bakery and coffeeshop) That is the easy part. However, I would like to send my 20" shipping container full of household stuff from Germany. Just to clarify, all items are mine, older than 6 months (actually several years) used but in good condition. Furniture, general household stuff. Now the tricky part.... being a handyman I have lots of tools and plumbing, carpenters and electrician things, both hand and electrical machines such as cordless drills, jigsaws and so on and some materials. I do NOT want to use them commercially, just for my private workshop. Anyone experience or sound advice regarding customs duties or VAT? I assume being a work permit holder and living here with non B visa I am entitled to import personal 2nd hand effects free of additional government charges but I am worried about my tools etc. Please let me know if someone had gone through that scenario. Thanks a lot in advance

February 7, 20179 yr Author Thanks Joe. Very detailed and clear information. However I was wondering if really someone has imported similar things before because what is stated on that website does really apply only if you bring the household gear only. No tools or other stuff mentioned or covered which in other words would mean tax and duty DOES get charged
