BANGKOK: -- A civil defence volunteer told police he suspected the body at the hospital may be that of Rattaphum. On Feb 6, Pol Maj Gen Suthee Nenkanthee, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police, led a team to Siriraj Hospital to examine the body.

Based on security camera pictures, and a tattoo of a star on his right wrist, it was initially believed the man was Rattaphum. A further examination would be made to confirm his identity, police said.

The cause of death has not been disclosed by the hospital.

A body stored at Siriraj hospital’s mortuary since end of last year for identification has been identified by parents as their son.

Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn disclosed today that the body was identified as Mr Rattaphum Pimchaisai, a car salesman who went missing since December 20 last year.

He was identified after patents recognised some of his belongings, and picture of a star tattoo on the left finger.

The commissioner said civilian volunteer at Thawi Watana district office reported to have picked up an unconscious man to Siriraj hospital for treatment after being alerted by a samaritan of a man going berserk at a Soi off Boromratchonee road.

The man died later on December 30, the commissioner said.

Autopsy report showed no bruises that indicated the man was assaulted, he said.

But the victim’s parents were suspecious of his death and said he might be murdered as he was in conflict with another man.
