Royal Thai Army War College organizes seminar on current events

BANGKOK, 8 February 2017 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Army War College has organized a seminar on the role of world powers in Thailand’s national strategies with an aim to disseminate knowledge on the global situation. 

Deputy Supreme Commander of the Thai Armed Forces Gen Supakij Nutsathit opened the seminar, which is part of an annual series by the Royal Thai Army War College. A combined over 500 students from the Royal Thai Navy University, Royal Thai Air Force University, Defense Technology Institute and Joint Staff University attended the discussion. 

The seminar was devoted to the memory of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and touched on topics such as the South China Sea situation, terrorism and economic movements among world powers. Speakers included Deputy Minister of Education ML Panadda Diskul and adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister Panithan Wattanayakorn.

Thailand warned about neutrality as superpowers compete in Asia

BANGKOK: -- THAILAND’S STRATEGY to stay neutral in world politics might prove more difficult as competition between global powers grows stronger, international relations expert Panitan Wattanayagorn said yesterday.

 

The Indo-Pacific region, covering the area from the Middle East to the East Asia, has been targeted by superpowers – the United States, China, Russia and India – because of its large economy, abundant sea lanes and rich resources, he said. 

 

Thailand’s positioning of itself in such an atmosphere was important because a wrong move could have negative consequences, Panitan said in his opening remarks at a discussion titled “Roles of the Superpowers that Impact Thailand’s Strategy Implementation” at the Royal Thai Army War College yesterday.
