BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Finance is  planning to distribute health cards to government officials to control overspending of the budget on unnecessary medical costs for civil servants and families.

This was disclosed by the finance minister yesterday.

Finance Minister Apisak Tantiworawong said the idea of issuance health cards similar to credit cards was intended to control the unnecessary medical expenditures.

Initially the ministry plans to issue such health credit cards for five million civil servants and their families to control expenditures when they receive free medical service at state-owned hospitals.

Wow! Nearly one in ten of the population, or one in three of the working population is a civil servant.

How many does it take to change a light bulb in Thailand?

This story makes no sense at all ?

It sounds like they are making an excuse to make unnecessary cards when each individual that gets government medical already has a hospital number and paper card. Including family members.

I think your'e onto something here. I wonder who gets the kickbacks for clinching the deal with card manufacturer. With 5 million cards involved that should be a tidy little earner for someone.

Only one if he is in uniform:
he holds the bulb to the socket and the world revolves around him.
