The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court on Monday dismissed online rumors that it had prematurely released a drug dealer from detention. In a statement, the court said 24-year-old Van Sreypov was still in custody.
 

“To avoid any confusion, the spokesman for the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court would like to explain to the public that the accused, Van Sreypov, who was accused of drug dealing…in Preah Sihanouk’s Pi village on January 16, 2017, is still being detained at the Preah Sihanouk provincial prison. “There was no release as the information being shared claims,” the statement read.
 

The statement was in response to two popular Facebook users saying that Ms. Sreypov, who they claimed was Vietnamese, had been released from prison despite being charged with drug dealing. Neither provided a source for their claims nor evidence to back it up.
