US Passport expires while I'm outside of Thailand

Featured Replies

I have a long-stay (retirement) visa, and will be making a trip to the US, where I will be getting a new US passport.  I know I can have the stamps transferred once I am back in Thailand. However, my question is, how do I get back into Thailand with my new (unstamped) passport, and my old (expired or cancelled) passport, without having to go through the hassles of starting all over again to renew my long-stay visa.  I should add that the date of my return to Thailand is within the period of validity of my long-stay visa.  I apologize if this has been answered. It is just that so much has been changing.

You put your re entry visa number (from the old passport) on the arrival card then hand the Imm officer both passports.

Show both passports and make the IO aware that your valid visa is in the old passport. They will stamp you in to the country in your new passport for 1 year. You don't need to transfer anything at immigration.

If he has a "long stay" retirement visa ie a Non-OA he would not have a re-entry permit as the OA is a multi-entry visa.

many people confuse long term retirement visa with what it really is

a1 year extension based on being retired. Issued in Thailand If u have a re entry permit,ur on an exteniosn,

if not ur on a 1 year NON OA visa- issued out of thailand

so u have to know which one it is

they will just stamp ur new passport,

IF your on an extension or 1 year visa

you can than just go to your immigration office and they will transfer the original Non o VISA, ur 1 year extension ( or the 1 year visa)  and ur re entry permit for FREE
beats carrying two passports

a1 year extension based on being retired. incorrect, it is an extension based on being over 50

If u have a re entry permit,ur on an exteniosn, if not ur on a i year NON O visa incorrect, as we are talking about "retirement" your year long visa would be a Non-OA

so u have to know which one it is

IF your onan extension

you can than just go to your immigration office and they will transfer the original Non o VISA,incorrect, visas are not transferred  ur 1 year extension and ur re entry permit for FREE
beats carrying two passports

I think you are the confused one.

OK, try to understand that there is no requirement to be retired to get a "retirement" visa or extension-BUT you do have to be over 50.

Yes, show us all where they transferred your VISA into a new passport, because they do not. They make a note of the details, but the VISA is not transferred.

stamp is transferred,  sorry, not the visa i used.but what i meant
