WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's choice for national security adviser, retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward, has turned down the offer, sources familiar with Harward's decision said on Thursday.

Harward was offered the job after Michael Flynn was fired by Trump on Monday for misleading Vice President Mike Pence over his conversations with Russia's ambassador to the United States.

Two sources familiar with the decision said Harward turned down the job in part because he wanted to bring in his own team.

That put him at odds with Trump, who had told Flynn's deputy, K.T. McFarland, that she could stay.

And the band played on...

Maybe time to call Alex Jones in...perfect National Security Adviser.

Sounds like a smart man to turn him down. Trump will listen to Bannon over any other advisor, and who would want to be "on the team" yet lack influence?

Just gather all the candidates into one room and the last person to say "Not It" becomes the new NSA.

The Apprentice - National Security Adviser edition. The ratings will yuge. "Get Mark Burnett on the phone now."

Mr. Loaf or Mr. Busey, time to step up.

Hopefully David Petreaus will get this position

Yikes!

Maybe if his parole office approves it.

Harwood just didn't want to upset Trump's well-oiled machine, called a paper shredder.

If Trump dismissed the Joint Chief of Staff, traditionally one of the top advisers of the president, in favor of Lord Bannon, why would he listen to this guy? He showed tremendous intelligence by walking away from this post. Who would want to work for this guy, knowing his predisposition to favor his own brilliance, and all knowing, all seeing, omnipresent knowledge over that of experts?

Just wondering if dt thinks selecting his own close people means he can totally control his appointees and avoid the check and balance mechanisms. Hope he gets roved wrong and fast.

Whoa there, you're not giving Ted Nugent a fair shake.

There are a lot of poisoned chalices being offered by Trump and I think many will back away from the insane one.

The failing donald trump failing to get what he wants, yet again.

The plot thickens.

Are we tired of WINNING yet?

If he doesn't get proved wrong, we lose our democracy.
