Authorities finally make an arrest at Wat Dhammakaya - but it's not what you think!

Authorities surrounding controversial temple Wat Dhammakaya have finally made an arrest.

But it wasn't the alleged embezzler believe to be holed up inside that they have been trying to nab for almost a year - they just got their hands on a rather large water monitor instead.

The animal - often called an unsavory name in Thai but in the Daily News story kindly referred to as Tua Ngern Tua Thong - stunned the deployed ranks of police and DSI and the assembled press by strolling through the tight cordon.

He then tried to enter the blockaded compound through a vent next to Gate 7.

However the large creature got stuck and the officials decided to make an "arrest" for its own good.

It was released back into nature well away from the temple that is on a large site in Pathum Thani province north of Bangkok.

Authorities have been trying to arrest head monk Phra Dhammachayo since last year on charges of embezzlement.

No news and updates on the whole saga, so Daily News decided to spin something out of it. Well, top marks for trying, really. However, I'm not sure if that is considered 'big'. I've seen much bigger ones mixing around with runners at Lumpini Park.
