Overstay for minors w/pic

Featured Replies

I wanted to share this pic of a visa overstay exemption due to the passport holder being under 15 years of age, at least that's what my HR guy translated it as. Their kids do not have any visas, nor extensions. They get VOA and nothing beyond that. Parents have non-b/o visas of course. I asked the parents (good friends of mine) whether they ever paid a fine for their kids, whether they got any trouble for the overstay, etc. They said they never got any trouble, in fact it was an immigration officer in BKK told them of this option.

Thinking of doing this with my kids...any experiences contrary to that of my friends'? Anyone face any consequences of any kind?

The fact that children under the age of 15 do not pay overstay fines does not mean they are exempt from having valid visa entries or extensions of stay.

There could be other problems encountered other than with immigration. Some schools might not allow them to be registered without a current permit to stay is one.

There was a recent report of problems at a border crossing when a child was trying to leave the country with an overstay. There was a long delay because the officers were not aware of the no overstay fine rule.

My son is 2 years old but had an O visa, and is now on my Extension of Stay.  In my opinion, it's best to stay within the law.
