Thai Tourism Wants to Open Military Facilities to Lure Chinese Tourists

BANGKOK – The Tourism Authority of Thailand has come up with an idea to open military facilities to draw tourists from China as part of a campaign to show Thailand’s new look, TAT deputy governor Srisuda Wanapinyosak said.

Mrs Srisuda, TAT deputy governor for Asia and the Pacific marketing, said the TAT had asked the navy to open its facilities such as warships, firing ranges and training camps for Chinese free independent tourists (FIT) to visit. About 60-70% of tourists visiting Thailand are in the FIT category while 30-40% are in tour groups.

She said the TAT had also prepared to improve the structure of the Chinese market to be of a quality grade by holding more activities. For example, some Chinese tourists have visited Thailand many times but never taken a bicycle ride around the Rattanakosin Island.

Another retardrd idea with no basis or practicality. Sheesh!

The TAT schoolchildren are really excelling themselves with bright ideas to bring in tourists. Durian Kit Kats, Pokemon Go and now a rusted out naval base. Things must be getting desperate despite the world record breaking statistics.

The PM must surely be scratching his head wondering how these people fill in their day.

Just hope there will be no airshows with Thai fighter pilots involved during this new "Lure" campaign.

What a splendid idea, Throw in few Go Go and beer bars a McDonald,  and I'll go there my self....

A bicycle ride around the Rattanakosin Island never made it to my bucket list either.

The people at TAT need to get out of Thailand more to see how other countries manage their parks, museums, and other public areas.

Khaosan offers a couple of bicycling tours.  More of such things may be worth pondering.  It seems uncharacteristically safe.

Clutching at straws, all is not as it seems. The golden goose must be dying?

Just where you wanna go on holiday.....Who on earth comes up with these brain farts

Thats why thailand needs submarines so they can draw in more tourists.

Rattanakosin Island....it's not exactly the Spratly isles. :coffee1:

Seems bonkers, but when I was a kid in Sydney I lived a short walk from the naval  base in Woolloomooloo, and they would sometimes open the facilities to the public. It was very popular, and I especially loved it in my teens... getting to tour subs and frigates, etc. Even got onto the US aircraft carrier Enterprise which was too big to enter Sydney Harbour... they provided shuttle boats for visitors. Now Thailand just has to up the game and give the Chinese tourists a chance to play with live grenades and rocket-launchers a la Cambodia...should be fun.

The PM probably thinks it's a good idea......they all come from the same clutch of eggs!

How many tourists does a country need ! There are already too many !

You would think the Chinese see enough military action in their own

country,to want to come and see more Chinese made hardware here,

regards worgeordie

Should stick to what they are good at and what 'lures' the most people- prostitution

That's 'cos it's in Bangkok.

That's a surprise to me--I had never looked up those figures, so some posts that feel the Chinese tourist money stays in China...maybe for 30% some of  their money does. but 70% are just normal (Free) tourists, paying --like any tourist for everything here.

.

Interested in Military things--I don't know-- I wouldn't be,-- but its surprising what float some peoples boat, the BBC had a program on holiday makers , what they look for--one mid size group (several 100) went all over Europe tagging Pill boxes* and placing them on a map.......:coffee1:

*Pill box= small concrete war time structure

Tourists would be more interested in watching a handful of monks defy 4000 cops. Even I feel the lure of that!

Why pander to these people, especially as the Thais themselves find them uncouth and rude? May i recommend TAT invests in spitoons to be placed in areas Chinese frequent in Thailand!

How are they finding our Quality British Tourist after the last few weeks of newspaper reports.??

Yes, but there's still the possibility to put an airstrip at Sanam Luang.

How are TV going to come up with an April Fool's story this year? Most of the potential options have been published as genuine!

Tourists can now watch that for free - police seizure of  Wat Phra Dhammakaya

I think Chinese are already familiar with Attitude Adjustment facilities in their own country.

Perhaps the TAT DG should try it. The wind blowing through her locks might disentangle some of the cobwebs clogging up her brain.

I think the idea offering "Graveyard Tours" to the bereaved of foreign accident victims would turn out more promising...

But maybe the brainstorming wizards at the TAT think this is a weird idea.

You mean another Thai delegation should be heading towards Hawaii?

Btw- I just reconsidered my stand on legalizing weed with too many potheads around already.

There's a much superior all inclusive package offering relatives of accident victims the opportunity to actually go join them.
