Seven monks from Dhammakaya Temple Wednesday have staged a hunger strike in protest the government pressure on their temple.

Phra Isaraphap Arjarasampanno, a monk from Dhammakaya network, who came from Mae Hong Son, said he and other monks decided to stage the protest to fight for justice.

They began the protest at 4.30pm by sitting on the floor at Klong Luang Market near the temple.

Bad spot to stage a hunger strike right next to a busy food market. They'll be meditating to the maximum to stop themselves succumbing to the sights and smells of the market. Plus I wouldn't like to sleep near a market either there must be thousands of rats running around at night.

Good job I'm not a monk. I'd put them off in less than 10 minutes. 555

Well if they are supposedly trying to pressure the Thai government perhaps they should have written it in Thai !! But there again they are just trying to divert attention away from the spaceship. Anyway it won't last long, 2 days max I guess.

Just wait for the foreigners to understand why the mastermonk has to be arrested....the monks won't get respect for not paying tax and all the rest of the 300 offends.

Maybe they can give the alms collected to a more worthy cause, like the homeless.

And, if they get lonely, they can always call their family on their latest, state of the art, mobile device.

Nevermind, the smell of reconciliation is killing their appetite.

If all 7 monks slowly starve to death, it will simply be a wast of life. Those at the top do not care, the only thing that matters is Thai society is returned to its pre- Thaksin days. The elite must restore and then maintain there position, article 44 and monks are only a tool to be used.

shaved head - orange clothes, so what

I'd like to know what these people were doing for the last 4 years, I'd also like to see their bank accounts, one thing I have learned about Thailand - they are experts at deception and everything they do when you really dig deep is about money - there are few exceptions

Methinks there will be other food delivered after midnight when no one is around.
