PHUKET: -- The chief of the Phang Nga City Police has confirmed today that the police officer charged with drunk driving in September last year was fined B25,000 and given a two-year suspended sentence.

CHIANG MAI: -- Chiang Mai district chief Preecha Sirinam has admitted that 198 hotels in the downtown area of the city are operating without a license.

Supreme Court to hand down final verdict on Somyot's lese majeste case

BANGKOK: -- Labor activist turned lese majeste prisoner Somyot Prueksakasemsuk will hear the verdict by the Supreme Court Thursday. 

 

Suspected of violating the Article 112, the big-time activist has been alleged of being the editor of “Voice of Taksin” magazine which published two articles deemed containing contents insulting the monarchy.

Lese majeste convicted Somyot’s term reduced to 6 years

The Supreme Court Thursday reduced imprisonment of lese majeste convicted Somyot Prueksakasemsuk to seven years.

 

The verdict reversed the criminal and the appeal courts’ ruling that Somyot be imprisoned 10 years for two crimes regarding the publishing of two lese majeste articles and imposed instead a six-year jail term against him.

PHUKET:-- Phuket Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan yesterday (Feb 22) revealed that the amnesty for businesses that had previously been illegally offering tourist property rentals for periods of less than 30 days has encouraged more than 1,000 such venues to register their intention to become legal hotels.

Three arrested after vehicles intercepted with huge drugs haul

Police arrested three Hmong suspects and seized 1 million “yaba” pills, about 90 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine known  as “ice”, and 165kg of heroin in Chiang Rai province early Thursday morning, deputy national police chief Pol General Chalermkiat Sriworakhan told the press conference in neighbouring Chiang Mai province.

Temple disciples seek help from UN
