Amazon (Shopping)

Featured Replies

I was thinking to buy things from Amazon, it ships from the US, will there be custom taxes if its sent to my door step? I live in Bangkok. Any experiences from amazon?

Depends on the item and its declared value. I believe some purchases from Amazon have the duty added.

Ultimately you are "importing" and are therefore liable for any duty to be paid. The likely hood increases if a courier is used such as DHL Fedex etc. US priority mail not so much, but again, depends on the declaration.

Indeed ^^^, and don't forget electrical items will 99% be 115V 60Hz and will go "pop" if plugged in here without the relevant transformer.

Typically amazon will use UPS or FedEx which as a courier service, has a higher degree of Customs scrutiny. Some here arguably call it a scam. If there's any way to get an amazon purchase shipped by USPS instead, chances of it being intercepted and charges levied should decrease.

Would you need to use an import agent for certain items when buying off Amazon? say  I wanted  to import a piece of farming equipment I saw on Amazon here that I can't find here in Thailand. It's value is US$500. Do I just pay customs taxes and fees on arrival?
