Featured Replies

Health officials have urged people to take care when buying food beyond its use-by date or suspected to be chemically contaminated after more than 60 students in Takeo province became ill from eating noodles.  Health Ministry spokesman Ly Sovann said food poisoning reports had increased every year. Some foods damaged the liver, stomach or kidneys, while some caused cancer.

“It is better not to buy cheap food which is expired or which has chemical preservatives which allows it to be keep for a long time,” he advised.  On Friday, 65 students at Sambour Sakor school, in Takeo’s Angkor Borey district, were taken to hospital after eating fried noodles. They recovered after treatment.

“Preliminary investigations pointed to a lack of hygiene and chemical contamination of the noodles,” he said. Deputy Angkor Borey district police chief Ouk Sarath said authorities questioned the noodle sellers and gave them guidance, but did not arrest them because the poisoning did not claim any lives.
