February 27, 20179 yr Is a benefit verification letter from SS good enough to meet the 40,000 requirement for marriage
February 27, 20179 yr A income affidavit from the embassy would be needed to prove the 40k baht incomer requirement for an extension of stay based upon marriage. The source of the income does not matter as long as it is from outside the country.

See: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/notaries-public/income-affidavit/ You could also do it at one of the outreaches next month . See:https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/consular-outreach/ Note that you must pay the fee with a bank draft at the outreach.

You would file as head of household since your wife would be a non resident alien. If you want to discuss it further please do a topic on the home country forum.

Actually if you have a Thai wife that does not have a SSN, you can file a form W-7 when you file your tax return and file married file jointly, they will issue her what is called an ITIN number Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, once you have this number issued every time you file joint return you use this number for her. When you fill out the form W-7 check the box E Spouse of US citizen/resident alien, then supply all the additional information on the form they are asking for. Can't remember if any other information is needed as it has been several years since I got her the ITIN number, so you may want to consult with a Tax man, but I have been filling jointly for several years now with no issues.

Did you buy or build a house together? If you did you must report a FBAR and when you sell it you must file capital gains, are you aware of this?
March 7, 20179 yr FBAR filing is easy. If you make money on a real estate sale, report it. Ask Boris Johnson.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why would building a house kick-off a FBAR report. As far as I know FBAR is only about foriegn financial accounts. I don't think foriegn real estate is required to be reported on FBAR or form 8938. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/comparison-of-form-8938-and-fbar-requirements You do have report capital gains on a sale, but you also get the primary residence exclusion as well as foriegn tax credit if you paid Thai tax on the gain.
