Not to side track this about Hawaii. I had lived in Hawaii for 22 years before moving to Thailand 14 years ago. Fortunately I have a job that allows me to live here but I still must go back to Hawaii or California to work. And I once said I would not live anywhere else also. If Thailand was ever to get their act together and really did start attracting high end tourist. There are many unintended consequence. Such as a higher cost of living and increasing land values the squeeze out the average home owner. There are many lessons to be learned about the long term effects. But I am afraid that in Thailand they are only worried about the short term gain.

Some of the shitest folk Ive seen have been in Business Class flights or in the lounges mouthing away on their  phones like the receiver of the call is a   billion  miles away and theres nothing but a piece of string joining them together

Korean quality tourists? Not on the golf course. Loud, slow and don't remove their hats in the club house. Stand the drinks all round for that in the UK.

patOngo Thanks for clearing that up, caught any fish with that lure.  I have a similar one

and the speckled trout are attracted to it. Thailand has cheap prices and that includes everything

like food, guest house, and 2 to 4 star quality hotels. Many clothing and luggage, and household

products.   Too bad that a car battery here only lasts 2 to 3 years. Beer and alcohol is a bit

expensive, but not at all like the expensive, countries like Sweden, Norway, or Denmark.

  The best way Thailand can lure more tourists from anywhere is to change its visa

requirements. 90 days , no visa required. Expats living in Thailand, a one year visa with no

need to leave Thailand every 90 days like now.

I must be using the wrong lures. Havent landed any quality thais yet. Couple of bites but turned out the quality wasnt there.

Had a similar experience... early 90's.... the people in the "tourist industry" seemed nice enough.... lays given out at airport etc etc.

 

but once out amongst the locals ( not employed in tourism) there was a marked difference in attitude... they really didn't seem to want tourist on their land, which was puzzling, due to the high percentage of people employed in tourism

"quality tourists" is starting to get up there with other trigger words for me such as "problematic," "multi-cultural," "inclusive," and "progressive." Buzz words that mean nothing but sound really nice for the virtue signaling.

Farcanell, pray tell me  at what airport were " lays" given.  Quite sure you meant leis.  Some visitors ask insulting questions like, "What kind of money do you use here?"  Others are downright rude and need to be put in their place. Are you one of these?

TAT needs to understand that they can't just want to increase the number of tourist. They need to do something to improve the infrastructure, starting with the Immigration Desk at the airports. Then clean up the treatment of those who visit the Kingdom, not only by the service providers but the police and other officials that tourist come into contact with during the course of their stay.

We have a true story for you, but have to present this in away you will not think we are biased. We have an interest in tourism in Asia, but not in Thai. So we have told you from the start ok. Over the last couple of weeks to satisfy a new project we have taken on, we have been carrying out research with UK travel agents on holiday destinations and this included Japan. This was by telephone. (ongoing).

 

Today the team on the ground visited many tour operators in posh areas and a few shopping centres. What we did find out is T is no longer considered a must visit country, many staff said they had not booked a holiday there in 3 or 4 months for customers and they where not getting many inquires. In two offices they said yes booked T but low grade tourist.

 

Sadly the one we are trying to promote was also classed as a specialist booking only at this time. But one with a V is starting to fly. Biggest one is Costa Rica.

 

Some of the agents spoken to where FC, TC and Vir, the biggest in the UK

 

We been fair on this no names but you can work it out, ours is not even mentioned here

 

Hey this is Just UK, we do not know about other countries.

 

Make of it what you will but the writing is on the wall and that is a very well known English phrase is it not.
