More minors abused in narcotic trade

The Nation

The number of narcotic trafficking cases involving minors in Thailand has risen significantly over the past years, prompting the judiciary to review court procedures to prevent the abuse of leniency applied to under-aged offenders.

Athikom Indarabhuti, secretary-general of Thailand's Court of Justice, said drug traffickers have turned to use more minors, aged 20 or younger, in their trade because these under-aged persons when arrested are subject to more lenient laws, especially with regard to rules and regulations on temporary release of suspects.

To prevent further abuses, judges are advised to strictly follow the law especially in cases in which minors commit serious offences concerning narcotics.

"To prevent further abuses, judges are advised to strictly follow the law.."

I nominate Athikom Indarabhuti and The Nation as joint winners of the satirical post of year award, and yes I know it is only March.
