DSI denies blockade responsible for death of Dhammakaya disciple

BANGKOK — Security forces on Thursday afternoon refuted claims that a follower of the Dhammakaya sect died of an asthma attack because their blockade prevented help from reaching her in time.

 

Pattana Chiangraeng, 48, died after an outside medical team was delayed over an hour from rendering aid because of roadblocks set up by soldiers in the area, a temple spokesman said. A spokesman for the authorities said there was no attempt to obstruct help for the woman.

Whatever the Dhammakaya sect people say. It is only their fault.

If they obeyed the law and would not protect a wanted criminal this whole drama and the siege would not have happened.

If they would not have incited their followers to appear and stand against the law the nurse could live.

If the wanted criminal would have turned himself in and not hide in their premises Article 44 would not be necessary.

The DSI / police are to blame that they did not use their power in the beginning and just arrest the scum.

 

The only good thing the sect should do would be to extradit the criminal. This could prevent further deaths.

Rubbish, absolute rubbish.

Frankly that is on a par with the argument that in a traffic accident involving a foreigner it must be the foreigners fault, because if the foreigner was not in the country the accident would not have happened!

Sometimes I can't help it, but do you mean further acts of God, or the gods?

Sometimes I wonder what the authority will do if the monk surrender or arrested. Give him bail than it really defeat the whole purpose of the current draconian method used that resulted in 2 deaths and an ugly standoff. Bail was the key request in the initial negotiation which the authority refused. Loss of face if bail granted.

 

Refuse bail and lock him up! Worse and more ugly standoff and if he fall severely sick and die in the cell; the aftermath will be unimaginable.

 

This is a Mexican standoff and only need a silly trigger to ignite the situation. An outside event will need to happen to possibly resolve it.

My advice to the government is (and I know they love advice from 'farangs') take a s*** or get off the pot. 

 

You've been exposed as all talk. Kids eating a sandwich are easy. Brainwashed zealots not so much. 

Firstly she has been told to leave and is breaking the law by remaining.

Second the ambulance attended when called time was wasted by the temple trying to get vehicles to enter through an unauthorised enterance.

Without taking sides too much the law is being broken by those remaining there and in any other country multiple arrests would have been made and if needed force used to arrest people or move them.  restraint has been admirable and maybe excessive.

Depends on one's point of view. Maybe she would have died anyway and maybe she wouldn't have. The point is she chose to be in the place where she knew things were difficult so in my view she made the wrong choice.

What a sweet looking lady. An innocent bystander in a stupid conflict. I am amazed that she did not have access to a inhaler as they say she was an asthma sufferer. She also apparently worked in the pharmacy. The government of course is trying to wash their hands of any wrong doing and there is lots of blame to go around. Being a Buddist thing it has the police buffaloed.
