March 4, 20179 yr Once again I find myself sitting with an undrinkable so called smoothie, because I forgot to add the crucial "mai aow nam keng" when ordering it... To me it's almost unbelievable that someone actually wants ice to be put into the blender and mixed up when making a smoothie - where I'm from that's a slushy, and very few people would prefer that over a real smoothie with only water. At most, putting in some ice cubes AFTER blending it. The crushed ice makes it way too cold to drink without waiting until most of our melts, not to mention you can't really taste any of the ingredients because your taste buds get frozen solid. Since it's default mode in Thailand to blend the ice into "the thing" (it's not a smoothie to me) I'm wondering if that's because people actually want it that way, or another one of those Thai "nobody likes it, but that's just the way it is" type of things that are easily fixable using common sense and a market survey... March 4, 20179 yr Maybe it's just the terminology. Smoothie is probably an incorrect description. I like the real fruits (mango, melon, banana) blended with ice - so long as they provide a thick enough straw. Some places call them "shakes". To me a "smoothy" is fruit (or veg) blended with milk, cream, or yoghurt - which I'm not a fan. A "slushy" is just crushed ice with a flavoured syrup poured over - isn't it?
March 4, 20179 yr I am so so fussy, with a Thai so called "Smoothie".... i always say, No Ice, No Sugar, No Syrup, ..... i have even even seen them trying to put in Carnation Milk ?? I don't mind paying for a decent smoothie....., so I expect it to be 100 percent Fruit...
