urgent help leaving thailand

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am currently in a difficult possition wanting to exit Thailand on Friday but I lost my passport and my embassy is being very unhelpful. Here is my current situation any help will be much appreciated;

1- I have double nationality and I am travelling with two passports one European and one British. I only used the European one and the British one I take with me as a backup but 2 weeks ago my European passport was stolen in Laos.

2- after going through a long burocratic procedure in Laos, since my country has no embassy there I was finally issued a Laissez Passer with a 30 day Transit visa to return to Thailand.

3- I tried to enter Thailand from laos via land but the officer refused to stamp my British passport, he would only accept the Laissez Passer.

4- on Friday I have a flight to Denpasar, today I went to my countries embassy and they told me that all they can do is issue a document that allows ONLY to return to Europe, which is not good for me since it will mean interrupting my travel plans and losing all my flights.

My question is, since I have a Laissez Passer with a valid transit thai Visa, is it possible to show up at he airport on Friday, check-in to the flight to Indonesia using my British passport and exit Thailand showing the Laissez Passer with the transit visa?

The public servant at my embassy was incapable of answering that question so I am worried about not being allowed to exit Thailand and continue my travels with my British passport

Any help would be very appreciated,

Cheers

Moved to here.

The reason Thai immigration would not allow you enter on your UK passport was because you were stamped out of Laos on the  Laissez Passer.

If the Laissez Passer allows you to travel and you were stamped in to the country on it I can see no reason whey you could not leave the country on it. That would need to be shown to Thai immigration on departure from the country since you entered on it.

You would need to show your UK passport to the airline when you check in for your flight to prove you can enter Indonesia. And the Laissez Passer to prove you are legally in the country.

Thanks ubonjoe, that's what I am hoping for. Is there anything that can be done in oder to ensure they don't stop me from exiting thailand? Like is there some sort of official document I should request? Or would you just show up at the airport on Friday ad do as you suggest?

Also in the case they become impertinent or suspicious anything you would say to ensure what I am doing is legal and so they allow me to go through?

Thanks again

I am not aware of anything that could be done prior to leaving.

Since you entered on the Laissez Passer that would be what you have to use to depart the country on. Thai immigration will not be interested in your ability to enter another country only the airline is concerned with that and showing your UK passport resolves that.

What you will be doing is what many people do that have 2 passports to swap passports when traveling. Leave using one passport and enter the other country on the other one.
