Dhammakaya active monk surrenders to DSI to face charge

 

 

BANGKOK: -- An active monk wanted by Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for defying the military junta' s order turned himself to the Klong Luang district police this morning to acknowledge the charge.

 

Phra Palad Seksan Atatamo reported to the police after he was summoned by the DSI for entering the Klong Luang market area in defiance of the order after the place was declared off-limit and came under control by authorities.

 

He is among 14 monks summoned by the DSI  for defying the military junta’s order.

 

Six have already turned themselves to the police, while eight others still do not report.

 

DSI deputy director-general Pol Col Songsak Raksaksakul said the police have escorted Phra Palad Seksan Atatamo to Pathumthani provincial court for detention permission.

 

He said the police would also ask the court not to grant him bail.

 

If the court agrees, he said the monk will be defrocked and sent to prison.

- Leaflets handed out by soldiers to protestors for them to leave and obey article 44.

Jonathan Head's picture says everything. The junta has created confrontation with a whole lot of monks and, behind them, a whole lot of ordinary people. Looking for an alleged criminal is one thing; oppressing a major social institution in the process is quite another - a really colossal blunder.

 

The danger for the junta is that, while the people have been too afraid/docile to agitate politically, this will potentially providing them with an indirect means of doing so - especially if the situation escalates further.

 

The junta will want to stamp this out quickly, though no doubt that will involve force - and deaths.

They can't fight the people. They would be better advised to make a tactical withdrawal from this confrontation immediately and completely.

Dhammakaya monk gets bail

BANGKOK: -- A monk from the Dhammakaya Temple, Phra Palat Seksan Attathamo, who allegedly led crowds gathering at the Klong Luang Central Market, was released on a bail of Bt200,000 on Wednesday afternoon.

 

The Thanyaburi provincial court granted the bail on condition that he would refrain from making statements of incitement or grant interviews, and will not enter the controlled area declared under a junta order.

 

Police had objected to his release on bail.

Well really "a major social institution" ?  That being the case, premises where alleged money laundering, drug smuggling and other illicit activities were carried out then I suppose you consider the Italian Mafia as a social institution !!!  Further " they can't fight the people" ?  didn't stop the military in 1976, 2010 and many years in between.

200k, drop in the ocean for these saffron robed crooks.  No doubt kept his passport and will next been seen leaving by private jet this week to pastures new. So the court is happy as they now have 200k tea money,  the government is happy because that is one less for them to be embarrassed about and sure as hell the fake Monk is happy because the money laundering company is just undergoing a re-location exercise.
