BANGKOK — Thailand is “fully prepared” to defend its record and obligations on human rights next week when they are discussed in Geneva before the United Nations, a government official said Wednesday.

A director of a government rights agency said they are prepared for scrutiny on Monday and Tuesday, when an 18-member body of independent experts chosen by UN member states will review Thailand’s compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

they'll be sending the guy on the right ! one on the left would be waste of a flight expenditure lol ...

It will be interesting to see what the United Nations panel actually say..not what Mr cardboard cutout spouts.

Another junket for a huge batch of useless 'Diplomats' that will leave Thailand, stay away for two weeks and spend one day at some office saying they are 'not understood' by the International Community and then return to 'The Land of Denial' to tell all Thai's that everyone on the Planet now understands !

Here's  hoping that Geneva laughs in their faces. The very idea that Thailand supports human rights is an insult to intelligence. From the massive inequality here to the insane Article 112 provisions, Thailand is little more than a police state with nice beaches.

They will be able to update their bank books, when they are there.

regards worgeordie

So who are they going to send to Geneva? The man himself or his cut-out? The latter might be the better choice... won't need a huge entourage, can be shipped in the freight compartment and, more importantly, it won't open its mouth and embarrass the country in front of the whole world with lies and half-truths.

This should be good.

denial seems to work

of course they could try the North Korean argument

Cool! The latest production of the Dumb and Dumber franchise is set in Geneva!Dumb-and-Dumber.jpg

Let's take 6 guys and get together on any street and discuss the human rights...oops...That's illegal in Thailand.
Enough said.

The thread title is a fine example of the word "oxymoron".

Probably little or nothing. The time for action has passed, the junta remain comfortably in control and aren't going anywhere. There will be no elections. They will issue any repressive laws that take their fancy and enforce them as selectively as they want. It's over. They've won.

The problem with the UN and all farangs is they dont understand Thainess.     :cheesy:

Agree 100%. Except for the beaches. In Thailand they are considered sewage treatment facilities. Never mind the human detritus lingering about trying to sell you something.

OMG! This there going to be live video broadcast?

What a pity that 'ridicule' does not kill, ...the ridiculous ones, not the victims of their sillyness, I mean, as when it would, Siam/Thailand could, again, become heaven-on-earth...

Now that you say it 'BuckBee', I think the guy on the right could also be a better PM, OK, he looks a bit like some so-so guy we know, except for the lighter complexion, slimmer face and longer Thai ears, but I guess this one I could trust, LOL

Must. Have. Update. NOW.

'tis gunna be gud.

And here's me when I was thinner and had whiter skin. pity they couldn't do anything about my damned IQ

For those who lack depth, they may wish to avoid cardboard cutouts of their likeness.  The girl in the background smiling is the, everything is okay, cherry on top.

Sadly as the current administration does not understand the outside world, they will fall on their faces in Geneva.  Today, they will have to figure out how to explain a quick reform of the national religion to a well educated panel.

Must be strange for them to find themselves in a country where they can open their mouth and say whatever they want.

I don't know what the fuss is about. I'm sure we will hear very soon that the UN now understand Thailand....

Unfortunately the cqrdboard cutout is the intelligent one of the two.

Really a no brainer. Just name me one post coup military government that has universally acceptable human right records. Waste of tax payer money to travel to Geneva to defend the indefensible. Might as well stay home and do your usual rhetoric of denial and accusation that they are bias and politically motivated by Thaksin.

They waste their time, if Thailand was a horse you'd certainly wouldn't back it, the more you think about it the more likely you'd need to shoot it........................:cheesy:

No, General Pawtwit the doyen of handling the truth carelessly is an expert on the UN , for he told everyone last year the UN understood the Junta's intentions bla bla bla , you should have read  what the real UN reply was, it was front page news in Cambodia.........

More talk Everthing will stay the same TIT
