Myanmar ambassador thanks Thai lawyers for help in "Burmese Two" case

BANGKOK: -- The Myanmar ambassador yesterday went to thank lawyers working on the case of the "Burmese Two" in the wake of the upholding of the migrants' death sentences.

His excellency Hong Kam Chung was at the Lawyer's Council to thank officials for their work in the case and ask for advice ahead of the appeal to the Supreme Court, Thairath reported.

Chung explained how the embassy were working with the accused to help them going forward with the case.

He was told that one of the main strategies at this stage was to put back the Supreme Court hearing as long as possible so as to work on ensuring all details of the appeal are addressed.

Death sentences against Burmese migrants Zaw Lin and Wei Phyo, who were convicted of the murders of David Miller and Hannah Witheridge in Koh Tao, have been upheld by a lower court.

The British backpackers were found dead in September 2014. The case has divided public opinion with many saying that the convictions are unsound and based on flimsy or nonexistent evidence.

Many claim that the real perpetrator or perpetrators are still at large.

Thanks and goodnight.

Is there no end to this travesty ?

What next thanking the police for a perfect case ?

Many claim that the real perpetrator or perpetrators are still at large.

What makes people say that?

Yes and I expect relatives of those 2 Burmese sentenced to death amongst all the irregularities would thank those Thai lawyers also if they ever went to Burma !!!

can you imagine having to work in a legal system like this? what a nightmare.

Lack of evidence.  A poorly handled case.

I have been working in it, and Yes, it is a nightmare. It's a system where stupidity wins out over common sense and logic pretty much continuously.

Yes the lawyers, activists and their media friends did a good job of making them look innocent, now our strategy is to delay the supreme court hearing as long as possible.

Sorry which side was meant to be sweeping this case under the carpet ?

His excellency Hong Kam Chung should also commend PM Prayut who condemned the accused to death before having any trial. Reform of Thai justice at its best under Prayut.

I doubt they will find her.  I think the homicidal predators of Koh Tao have learned to cover their tracks much better.  It would be best if they stopped these activities, but I think the best they can do is lay low for a while, until their  urges become uncontrollable, as they often do for serial killers.

At least he is thanking the only people who seem to have somemoral code. he is NOT thanking the Police or the Government for their handling I see. Good job.

Etc etc etc (I think poorly handled is a very kind understatement)

Overheard in Koa Tao:

"Don't worry, she can't be that far..

You want more lasagna's, meat is really fresh?"  :sorry:

Nope.

A search party of divers and rescue workers set out on Tuesday to scour areas in a bay for a missing Russian female tourist holidaying on Koh Tao, a famous island resort in South Thailand. Valentina Novozhyonova, 23, disappeared after checking into a hotel on Feb 11. Authorities suspected she had gone on a diving expedition. Police met 30 individuals from businesses offering diving classes and expeditions on the island as well as local rescue workers.

They signed power of attorney over to the Burmese government, and they seem happy with the lawyers perfomance,

Shame for the truthers as they can no longer try and implicate the defense team in their conspiracy theories.

You seem well up with how things work on the island. Who do you think will take the blame for the Russian girls death, or will it just fade away when no body is found ?

Don't know how things work on Koh Tao never stepped foot on that island.

Stickboy is reporting that goggles a green vest and possible body part has been found by divers, so you might find out soon.

None of the Koh Tao mafia apologists have 'ever stepped foot on that island', Bert. Remember the apologist-in-chief stating the same? That was, of course, until someone found a review by him of a dive school on the island on Tripadvisor.

Anyway, good to see that the Burmese government has not abandoned the scapegoats.

Ah the famous AleG. I wonder what ever happened to him. Maybe feeding the fish. He only managed to convince one person the Burmese did it, His masters wouldn't have been to pleased about that.

And the person he did convince  is a top class nutter who was cant decide if it is male or female.

Good old Khun Han still can't argue the topic, so has to make up baseless accusations,

Maybe Berrybert should get thai visa to change the headline to Burmese embassy thank lawyers for travesty of justice, you should take all the evidence you have to the Burmese embassy so they can correct their statement.

Baseless except it was true. Still never mind. Its all down in Black and White somewhere.

Unlike you to search for the truth when you can just say something is a lie.

It's all in black and white somewhere ? Yes typical can't back up your claims, have you been to the Burmese embassy  with your evidence yet Bert ? Still waiting to see a correction from them.

No I have no need to let the embassy know AleG has written a review on an island dive school. Would that help their case ?

Or was that not what you were trying to deflect from ?

Well good luck with that, but I don't see that is going to help free the B2, btw looking at defense lawyer Mrs Bergman FB she does not seem to know if they are innocent or guilty, no mention of travesty of justice.

The 'real' murders are still at large, which means no tourist is safe on the Island.

The Burmese Government reminding the Thai Government this is not forgotten and not a closed case.

Maybe I've got it ass backwards.... but... with myanmartians now getting involved, I see it as a good thing... these two guys may stand a chance on appeal

the myanmartians need to say thank you velly much to the Thai lawyers, out of respect, even if undeserved, to allow them to get involved, so no one "looses face"

im thinking it's a good development for the B2

Er.....why does Bert need good luck with not going to the Burmese embassy to tell them that AleG told porkies on here about never having been to Koh Tao?

Yes you have got it wrong

This article is from October 2014

"The lawyer said Win Zaw Htun had asked him to “please protect us in accordance with the law.” Aung Myo Thant said the migrants signed a power of attorney document over to the embassy’s legal team, allowing it to represent the accused men in court."
