Quick US Tax Question

This will be my first full year in Thailand and when I fill out my taxes if I use my Thai address vs. my NJ mailing address will I have any issues to deal with? I will not be hit by FATCA or FBAR because I keep my funds here under the triggers. I have spent less than 30 days last year in NJ, so I won't need to fill state taxes (BIG YEAH!!).

I just want to know if there is some downside I don't know to using a Thai address.

Many thanks.!

The IRS  just wants your mailing address.

The state, in cross-referencing federal taxes, may want to ask you why you didn't file a state return.

I use my state (no state taxes) mailing address because of the faster mail service.

If you are divorcing yourself from previous state residency in New Jersey the cleanest way would be to use a Thai address and file a partial year state tax return for New Jersey even if you think you aren't required to. The same as if you moved to another U.S. state.

I will use the home state of Maryland as my address when filing even though I have lived here for a whole year. I usually don't live more than three months in my home state. Will I have to file the FBAR if I have less than $10,000 in a Thai bank?. FBAR is new to me. Will greatly appreciate any help.

If the aggregate of all your non USA bank accounts is less than 10,000, then no.

Putting 9,000 in one and 9,000 in another means you need to report BOTH.
