BANGKOK: -- FOREIGN FUND managers posed several questions to Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong after he gave his keynote speech at the CLSA Asean Forum 2017 yesterday.

One member of the audience asked Apisak when the general election would take place, adding that investors really wanted to know.

Apisak assured the audience that the election would be held next year after the Royal cremation of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the coronation of HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn later this year.

Political instability caused by prolonged political protests and the current military rule have deterred new investors who are not familiar with Thai politics from investing in the Kingdom.

They've already been told last quarter of 2018 at the earliest......nearly four years after the first date promised.

Ground Hog Day

Yet another one with the election day promise. The one that doesn´t make an election promise, is going to be removed to an inactive post, or at least more inactive than before.

Or in other words, the election for sure will not be held before any of the aforementioned events, but even if the elections are held 10 years later he's still correct.

It will be AFTER the events.

Elections will take place in 2022. Everyone knows this.

When the Junta has run out of money. Must be coming soon. :hit-the-fan:

" Political instability caused by prolonged political protests and the current military rule have deterred new investors who are not familiar with Thai politics from investing in the Kingdom.  "

Those present who were familiar with Thai politics were heard to mutter something about gold mines and barge poles...

If the elections are to be put on ice until after the funeral of the late King and the Coronation of his successor, then we are probably looking at the Spring of 2018 as the earliest time for the electorate to have its say.

2020, which the Junta seems to have let slip to PDRC supporters early on, is looking quite accurate.

We heard that same story before.....
