Cambodian Police kill man during drug raid

A man, who police claim was a drug dealer, was gunned down during a police sting on Wednesday at Takeo province’s Samraong district. Provincial court spokesman Phan Sopheak said police were acting in self-defense after 23-year-old Heang Suytry fought back while being detained.
 

However, details of the incident have yet to be released. “The provincial police in charge of fighting drug activity carried out the crackdown at about 5pm in Samraong district,” Mr. Sopheak said.
 

“According to the preliminary report, at the time of the crackdown the suspect resisted and fought back with police,” he added. Despite making the claim that Mr. Suytry’s death was in self-defense, he admitted the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
