Independent bodies in crosshairs over ‘costly’ courses

By THE SUNDAY NATION

INDEPENDENT organisations have come under scrutiny over their special courses involving overseas travel which are viewed as causing an unnecessary financial burden on the state.

The Office of the Auditor General is looking into such courses, whose organisers include the Election Commission, the National Anti-Corruption Commission, the Constitutional Court, the Court of Justice and the Administrative Court.

Auditor General Pisit Leelavachiropas said the focus was on overseas trips that were part of the courses.

I'm pretty sure they won't find anything amiss, and that every single one of these excursions was necessary. Nothing to see here, certainly not corruption - the NACC seems to have participated too -

"It cost about Bt200,000 to take part in the NACC’s special course on “advanced management of strategies for the prevention and suppression of corruption”.

just the good people doing the things they fought in the streets for in 2013-2014.

It is interesting that details of these trips is actually in the public domain, probably a result of participants posting photos on their FB pages in exotic locales.

Hopefully they leave a few behind to help run the country in their absences.

I can see next weeks headlines already.

"Auditor General Pisit Leelavachiropas has today been charged with defamation and Computer Crimes, the charges being brought by the Election Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. These charges will be heard in the Constitutional Court, the Court of Justice and the Administrative Court."

Yep,  only government bodies under the direct control of the General should be allowed to go on these luxury overseas junkets at considerable expense to the tax payer.

"Sir, you are taking a delegation of 12 pineapple farmers, a flight attendant, and a tuk tuk driver  to Hawaii for a week, on taxpayers expense- why?" Answer: "Do you know who I am."

I'm in favor of all these foreign trips so long as the travelers DO NOT RETURN.

Through coup after coup they have proven useless.

Notably the EC that couldn't even organize an election within 60 days as was prescribed in the 2007 Constitution.
