A 28-year-woman who was beaten and suffered serious burns when her husband set their house on fire with her and their six-year-old-daughter inside has died in hospital. The incident took place in Mal village in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district in the early hours of March 6.

District police officer Seng Nak identified the suspect as 33-year-old Ouch Thuonvireak, who is unemployed, and the victim as Sim Sothary, a grocery vendor. “She died on Sunday at Preah Kosamak Hospital due to serious wounds,” he told Khmer Times. “Her body has been taken by relatives for a funeral at home.”

Mr. Nak said the couple had been arguing for several months because the husband suspected his wife was cheating on him with another man. On the night of the fire, the suspect beat his wife and strangled her during an argument, he said.
