Thirteen Cambodians were arrested but subsequently released yesterday after the owner accused them of winning $60,000 by cheating. The 10 men and three women were detained on Sunday by Interior Ministry internal security police at the Chinese-owned Yaduoli Casino in Preah Sihanouk province.  Lieutenant General Seang Sen, chief of internal security police at the ministry, said the 13 gamblers were arrested over allegations of cheating and because only those holding foreign passports are permitted to play games in casinos across the country.

“They were arrested based on a complaint from the owner of the casino,” he told Khmer Times. “They were accused of cheating to win games.” All 13 gamblers were released on Monday after being educated about the law and signing a contract with police promising not to do it again.

A police officer with the internal security police in Preah Sihanouk yesterday told Khmer Times the 13 gamblers denied allegations they cheated during interrogation at the police station.    “They said they played games at the casino and won more than $60,000. They claim the owners didn’t want to pay them, so came up with a plot to accuse them of cheating and reported them to police,” he said.
