NCPO investigating if Nonthaburi motorcycle taxis being made to pay influential people

NONTHABURI, 14 March 2017 (NNT) - The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has launched an investigation into allegations of motorcycle taxis being made to pay off influential people in Nonthaburi.

NCPO Spokesperson Col Winthai Suwaree said that a unit under the NCPO has joined hands with local agencies in Nonthaburi to look into reports that motorcycle taxi services in the province have been paying kickbacks to those with influence, affirming that if such a practice is uncovered legal proceedings will take place.

The spokesman assured that the NCPO has been serious about eradicating influential individuals and their oppression of motorcycle taxi service providers but noted such criminal elements have been adapting their approaches to avoid detection. He stated that information from the public would help authorities remedy the situation.

Col Winthai more generally assured that the NCPO is still working to bring order and regulation to society and that the Army Commander has been personally tasked with addressing such issues. He urged public cooperation to achieve success.

They do everywhere in Thailand don't they ?

My local chaps pay. They going to put a stop to that too? Oh and they were enjoying a whisky last night. How about putting a stop to that?!!

Congratulations to the NCPO. They have found an isolated incident of naughtiness, they are looking in to it, and everything will be bright and shiny again soon. Yeah, right!

Clearly this particular influential person/people in Nonthaburi is not the right influential person for the NCPO. The income stream needs to be diverted as somebody else needs to feed at the trough.

When do you think newspaper articles in Thailand will actually name godfather figures accused of corruption? In this century?

I'm wondering if the influential people weren't dropping the word 'Uber' to coerce payment, saying their future livelihood is at stake as the PooMeeAmnaht decides whether Uber has or doesn't have a foothold in the Nonthaburi market, credibly or otherwise.

If it is, this is only the beginning of these types of stories.

They are finally investigating something which is known to everyone for decades?

I guess they will never find out who the influental person is. If 500 motorbike taxis not have one person that can speak, then the whole world will be quiet.

Reminds me little bit about the song "He´s got the whole wide world in his hand". Must be an evil and nasty little prick of a bastard that can silence so many.

Do they even have the guts to prosecute these influential idiots if caught?
