BANGKOK: -- An advert on Facebook managed to ensnare 400 victims who thought they were doing a course accredited by Kaset University in Bangkok.

But when it came time to get their qualification the university said it had nothing to do with them.

The course promised high ranking jobs would be available in both the government and private sector and enticed many in the consultancy field to improve their existing qualifications.Thai Rath spoke to one such man called Thanongsak Phophaiboon who is a business consultant. Along with 400 others he believed the Facebook advertisement even though he was wary.

He said that with the Kaset name on the advertisement he felt confident it was legitimate. There was even a video from a well known person to back up the claims that it was all above board.

The victims were told to go to Kaset itself to pay for the course. Thanongsak said that he parted with 125,000 baht in advance.

He was suspicious about the receipt he received. Firstly he would have expected to pay through the official channels of the finance department of the university.

But the money was just collected by a woman in some rooms in one of the university's faculties.

Then the receipt did not have the official stamp of the university though it was made out to look real enough with other stamps and information such as tax numbers.

Many people have been conned by the bogus course and are now seeking recompense.

400 people paid 125K for a scam??.....400 dumb a** people...fools and their money!!...But using university premises to make a payment, take scamming to a new level!

However, the person who ran the scam appears to have all the qualifications to be president of the United States.

Fat money 4 sure, even if not each of them forked out full 125K ... but then 'Business Consultant' did sound so nice and important ...

So they've walked into to Kaset University, set up shop in one of their rooms, and initiated a flawless sting operation

You've gotta give them credit, if only for their audacity.

They've made a lot of supposedly educated people look really dumb. One thing that surprises me is that Kaset has allowed their name to be mentioned

I'm sure Kaset was not aware their name was being used, the scammers either rented a room for "educational" purposes or that one of the officials in the school was in on the scam by providing a room from the scammers to use.
