Illegal van operators busted

PATTAYA:--Two men were arrested for allegedly operating illegal van-transport services from North Pattaya.

Payup Wangchroen, 34, and Boonma Thongloy, 52, were taken into custody and fined 2,000 and 1,000 baht, respectively, for offering unlicensed and private vehicles for public transport outside the Central Marina mall March 7.

The undercover operation carried out by soldiers, Banglamung District and Land Transport Department officials came after complaints from licensed taxi drivers that “black plate”, or privately registered vehicles, were being used for public transportation.

A grand total of 3000 baht fines between them, yep - that is sure going to give them a lesson they wont forget in a hurry!!

Grassed up by those fine and upstanding citizens who are the licenced taxi drivers.

No mention of UBER? I hope the drivers are clever enough to avoid parking outside bus stations and malls.

Great name for an illegal transport operator 'Payup' his last name should have been 'Orelse?

According to a taxi driving acquaintance; First fine is low, perhaps up to 5000. Second is higher and perhaps the taking away of vehicle and third, jail time.
