March 21, 20179 yr Replacing a broken extractor hood in the kitchen, I'd like to install a ducted extractor hood. I don't have a wall opening yet, as the old hood was ductless. What is the best way to do this? How to build the wall opening? Is a vertical pipe on the outside beneficial or needed? What fittings to use? Edited March 21, 20179 yr by Morakot
March 21, 20179 yr A solution probably depends on the design of the extractor hood ...and what options your local vendor provides. With the unit you have pictured in your post, a flexible vent pipe or tube can probably be attached to vent the extracted air OUT through a nearby wall, or UP though your ceiling and through to an outside mounted wall or roof vent. Some extractor configurations can be found here 6 important points to consider before ducting out your cooker hood best hoods Curry's Cooker Hoods Siemen's Cooker Hoods Some examples of outside vent/duct installations can be found looking at: Google Images for vent/duct installations Google Images for side wall or roof mount vent If the inside vent/duct work will be seen then you may want to have someone who works with stainless steel do some custom fitting for you. The 'outdoor' part of the vent should be something that allows the air to freely exit, but has a 'baffle' to prevent air gusts from coming back in, prevents birds or other critters from coming in, and prevents water from condensation or rain from making its way back through. With thousands of designed fittings available, again, it depends on what your local vendors have access to sell.
March 21, 20179 yr Author Thanks RichCor! Very useful. I've got some basic idea now. Yes, it will be wall mounted and the wall opening will be directly inside the "chimney" casing. I'm checking at my local HomePro Th and see what they offer.
