Dhammakaya’s deputy abbot and 19 others released on bail

By The Nation

Dhammakaya Temple's deputy abbot Phra Thatthacheevo and 19 others accused of forest encroachment were each released on Bt100,000 bail on Saturday.

All the 20 suspects, who must return to court for a second detention period application on April 5, deny the charge against them, which relates to the World Peace Valley Meditation Centre in Nakhon Ratchasima's Pak Chong district.

Phra Thatthacheevo and 10 others had presented themselves in response to a police summonses to hear the charge at the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division office in Bangkok on Friday. They were released on condition that they met up with the officers again early Saturday to apply for the first 12-day detention order from the Sikhiu Provincial Court. Another 10 individuals, who also received summonses and had reportedly asked for postponement to hear the charge on April 4, also showed up at the court Saturday, bringing the total number to 20.

The Dhammakaya meditation centre in Khao Yai has also come under scrutiny following accusations that it encroaches on forest and agricultural reform land. The Sikhiu court had already issued an arrest warrant for former abbot Phra Dhammachayo in connection with this centre's alleged encroachment case.

Fund-raising, as practiced by all temples in Thailand, and by all religions around the world?

The World Peace Valley Meditation Centre is presumably a very effective fund-raiser.

Incidentally, check Google Earth:

The centre (top right) is 'encroaching' only on agricultural land. Note the Toscana Valley development (bottom left) which is encroaching severely on primary forest - I haven't heard any cases about that. This is continued political persecution of Dhammakaya.

Just add it to the pile on the table over in the corner. When the wily abbot returns we will be sure to give them to him. I guess the place will be overrun with BIB with long tape measures. The BIB can be like a hive of bees once you get em riled up they get their stingers out. They are at their best when left alone to their own devices/vices during working hours.

Its a chit/IOU system they write on a piece of paper "Pay to the bearer 100,000 bahts" Its similar to the paper "money" in your wallet.

Have you never heard of "Gofundme" Just because their monks does not mean they live in the dark ages. One of them was playing the stock market as well. There are two sides to all of us. I am still looking for my better half.

Your a gentleman and there is damn few of us left.

That's it? After what seems to be years of huffing and puffing, strutting, threats and complicated "strategies" to shake up the evil temple of sin, the rewt of Thailand gets a 5-minute court appearance ceremony  and  members of the cult are released on bail?

Any results or "moral lessons" the rest of the nation might have gained from this justice system street theatre recording an epic battle between secular and lay interests will soon sink in a haze of disappointment and boredom. And for what benefit has all the public money been sunk into producing fine - but poihtless - melodrama over the last 2 years?
