Book launch ‘political’

By The Sunday Nation

Military and police officers interrupted the launch of a new book by Pheu Thai MPs at Suan Rod Fai Park yesterday, saying the event was political in nature and the book may contain political issues that could instigate unrest.

The 434-page book is written by former deputy agriculture minister Yutthapong Jarassathian and some other Pheu Thai MPs.

They planned to launch the book at the park ahead of the coming national book fair.

The officers posted the National Council for Peace and Order notice banning political gatherings as well as the park’s regulation prohibiting political activities. They also asked the MPs to drop the book launch.

The writers claimed that the book is about benefits farmers have gained from the Yingluck government’s rice mortgage scheme.

Yutthapong said the book is also about the plight of Thai farmers after the price of rice plummeted. He had wanted to sell the book and donate money from the sale to farmers.

He said he had no idea which parts of the book are political, as alleged.

A book written by a selection of PTP politicians about the "benefits" farmers received from the Thaksin rice scheme implemented by the  Yingluck government.

Why ban a book of fairy stories?

If they were "fairy stories" they'd just have ignored it. Something must have hit home.

The book's launch is NOT 'political', the book's publication is NOT 'political', the book's content is NOT 'political'!

It can't be, as we all know that for anything to qualify for the 'politically motivated' label, it has to be somewhere disturbing for the Shins' PTP/UDD, what this 'book' is rather the opposite of...

The problem is not wether the book is political or not. The problem is that any book can be forbidden because it is claimed to be political by the power that be.

In either case, why bother blocking it? I mean, you yourselves have pointed out often enough that the Shinawatra/UDD/RedShirt support has fallen away. A perception that seems to be supported by the polls commissioned and trumpeted by the government. It's hardly as if the rural voters who have seen the light and therefore no longer are foolish enough to support the  despotic Shinawatra/UDD/RedShirt gang are likely to rush out and buy a copy is it?

I know it was blocked to prevent people becoming confused. Well I'm confused, but perhaps not as confused as those whose task is to explain why te action was taken.....

Political parties doing politics. What a shame! How do they dare....

Right!

The very thought of politicians wanting to speak about politics - how disgusting!

We all know that only the junta has a full and democratically tested mandate from the people to spew politics upon them day and night - not least via Friday-night broadcasts, when people come home from work and want to relax and see something enjoyable on television and are FORCED to watch ... well, you know what they are forced to watch if they have their TV sets turned on ...

But at least no one is 'confused' under this junta any more. We all see the political reality very clearly:

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY.

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

Oh sorry: forgot that that book is banned here and even cinemas are not allowed to show the film versions.

After all - ''IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH"!

It must be a source of great pride to be a Thai these days ....
