Import tax on cosmetics?

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I am planning to buy cosmetics from a wholesaler in the US and ship it to Thailand.

The cosmetics will cost around $700usd + 100usd shipping fee with around 500 items in it (small cosmetics such as eyeliner, eyeshadow etc etc)

I have tried reading online but I dont see any article stating how much tax will I pay.

If the wholesaler will mark it as: gift, or not for commercial use: will i be exempted on paying tax? or will the tax be reduced?

Please give me an idea on approx how much will I pay on tax.

Thanks you in Advance!

Bought cosmetics in duty free thai & seen same in shop 1000 bht up maybe 1/3 rd increase

as for the gift part not sure but doubt any benefit as i've bought items in as a one of 7 was still hit up

Marking as a gift does not work especially at the amounts your talking about.

The tax rate is 30% over the cost + shipping and after 30% you will get hit for an other 7% for VAT.

Also depends on how its sent, by courier like DHL or Fedex and you can guarantee getting hit hard with "fees".

Will this be max? or could be more than that?

It's not high end brands.

Planning to ship it by UPS. what do you think?

Is a better option but still not "guaranteed" to get through but is the lesser of evils.

Its what is required by law... so it should be the max. Its not about brands.

Ive heard by a friend who got a single tshirt shipped to Thailand from family in america he paid 600b tax.  He had to pay it because it was a family thing but not happy about it.  The tax was more than the tshirt.

There's now huge clampdowns on imported items through the mail.

Depends on the carrier you use, but in general I believe the tax should be around 30%
