UPDATE Four held after Chinese woman escapes car in Kamphaeng Phet Picture courtesy of Khaosod Four Thai men have been charged after a Chinese woman allegedly abducted in Bangkok escaped from a moving car near a police checkpoint in Kamphaeng Phet on 25 August. The woman, who was injured and had allegedly been restrained, ran to nearby residents for help after being pushed from the vehicle as it fled through the checkpoint in Mueang district, police said. Police at Mueang Kamphaeng Phet Police Station arrested Somkiat, 41, Suchart, 41, Kittiporn, 24, and Kittisak, 22. The men are from Mae Sot and Phop Phra districts of Tak province. All four have been charged with jointly detaining and confining another person, and jointly causing bodily harm. They deny the allegations. Escape at the checkpoint Police said a black sedan drove through the checkpoint before slowing down and opening its rear door. The Chinese woman, whose hands were tied, was pushed onto the road. Despite her injuries, she was able to get up and seek help from people living nearby. The woman told investigators she had travelled intending to go to Singapore, after visiting Thailand first. During her flight, she said she met a woman who told her she had a Chinese friend living in Thailand and persuaded her to meet that person after arriving. After staying at a Bangkok hotel, the woman said a sedan collected her. The car later stopped near the hotel to pick up three additional men, at which point she believed she had been deceived. Police examine possible border link According to her account, she tried to resist and leave the vehicle but was restrained, with her hands tied. She said one of the men struck her in the mouth with an elbow, causing injuries, before her head was covered with a cloth. When the vehicle reached Kamphaeng Phet and she spotted the police checkpoint, she called for help, believing it was her only opportunity to escape. Police said the driver then sped through the checkpoint. Investigators suspect the men may have been hired to take her towards the Mae Sot border area in Tak, where she could potentially have been forced into illegal work. They are seeking to establish who allegedly arranged the abduction and whether others were involved. 25 August 2026
