BANGKOK, 4 April 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Mineral Fuels will invite petroleum experts and its former concessionaires to join a meeting on Wednesday to discuss a bidding for gas production in Bongkot and Erawan gas fields.

According to Department of Mineral Fuels Director-General Weerasak Pungrassamee, it will be decided in a meeting if the production of natural gas in Bongkot and Erawan gas fields will be in the forms of concession, employment, or production sharing agreement.

The conclusion will be proposed to the Cabinet for consideration no later than June. The auction for the governments’ contract will begin in July while the winners will be announced in December. The winners are required to produce more than 1.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day and will be fined if they fail to meet such requirement.

The Department of Mineral Fuels Director-General assured that the auction will be held transparently. Bidders should have experiences in gas exploration and have, in the past, produced at least 300 million cubic feet of natural gas per day to qualify for the auction.

Middle Eastern and Chinese gas companies are among potential bidders who have shown their interests.
