A 36-year-old man from Nonthaburi died after shooting himself at a firearms range in Bang Bua Thong district on 18 August, police said. Relatives told officers he had a history of depression and believe his illness may have been a factor. Police were called to the shooting range on Kanchanaphisek Road in Bang Bua Thong subdistrict, Nonthaburi, after being notified that a person had died there. Bang Bua Thong police superintendent Pol Col Thansakorn Konthong led the response, alongside Pol Lt Col Chanathip Phanthong, Pol Lt Col Sirodom Sripanya, Bang Bua Thong district chief Pairoj Chuengthanacharoen and senior district officer Yotsawat Khongmee. Forensic officers, doctors from the Central Institute of Forensic Science and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers were also sent to the scene. Police examine the shooting range The man's body was found at the far end of the range's target area. He was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, and had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was found beside him and was retained as evidence. The body was later due to be taken to the Central Institute of Forensic Science for a detailed post-mortem examination. Picture courtesy of Daily News Chai, a range employee who witnessed the events, told police that the man had rented a gun at the facility. He said staff stopped him when he attempted to take it outside the range. The man then asked to go outside for a cigarette, Chai said. Staff again warned him not to take the firearm out of the range, but he later entered the target area and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the employee's account. Police secured the area while forensic officers and other agencies carried out their examination.
