Jirachai Moonthongroi, permanent secretary of the PM’s Office, says he is ready to defend the government’s civil liability lawsuit against former premier Yingluck Shinawatra in court, after she filed a misconduct charge against him for allegedly failing to conduct proper hearings of witnesses in the case concerning her government’s rice-pledging scheme.

Jirachai, who was chairman of the committee which sought massive compensation of Bt280 billion from Yingluck for causing financial damage to the state in regard to the rice-pledging scheme, said the action he had taken was honest and supported by the panel tasked with taking civil liability measures against the former premier, whose pledging programme was found to have resulted in a huge loss of taxpayers’ money.

The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases will hold a hearing on April 21 on Yingluck’s counter-lawsuit against Jirachai, who is accused in the misconduct charge of violating Article 157 of the Criminal Code due to his alleged failure to conduct a proper hearing of witnesses in the rice-pledging case.

Hated the rice scheme, but everyone knows the real reason why she was deposed.  End of the day, history will show who has caused more damage Thailand; a not so bright elected official or an even less bright army general who dosed her.  Happy to see her fight on.

Sorry YL. Get ready for that punching bag feeling. Your taking a knife to a gun fight in this case a dull knife separated from its handle.

they have given her plenty of chance to flee the country like they did for her brother. they must be scratching their heads wondering why she is staying. soon her 5 year ban on running in the next election will expire. guess they can just ban her for another 5 years at any time.

They are like Merlin and article 44 is their magic wand. She should have ran. Forget face saving. They will beat you to a pulp in the court system and if you left your money behind well you know the routine. Again you saw what happened to your brother and is still happening and this should have given you street smarts. They see and smell the $$$$ here that can be seized and claimed as legal law enforcement. Its a suckers game for you.

She wasn't deposed by anyone. She was removed by a court after dissolving parliament for an illegal abuse of power.

Everyone knows who actually called the shots, and it certainly wasn't her or the bloke who succeeded her.

If she is smart yes. This statement could be touchy but being a woman and ex prime minister and sister of Thaksin could give her a feeling of invincibility. She may have that wrap yourself in the flag feeling. What goes on in a person brain is hard to fathom. We are all different. Maybe seeing as how she was captain of the ship at one time she felt she should go down with it. Minds are a funny thing she may think she was in the right and will fight.  If the money is out of the country she could be playing cat and mouse with the junta. She might view it like a high stakes poker game. She may not understand that a royal flush beats 4 aces.
