BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on Tuesday expressed support for the draft bill which would cut the term of office for tambon chiefs, or kamnans, and village heads to five years.

More than 36,000 vehicles ordered at Bangkok Motor Show

A total of 36,093 orders were placed for new vehicles at the 38th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) that ended on Sunday, according to a revised tally by show organisers. BIMS organiser Grand Prix International said around 31,031 orders were placed for conventional cars and trucks, while 1,019 were for commercial electric vehicles (EVs) and 4,043 for motorcycles.

Family distraught after Supreme Court doubts evidence in bid for murder retrial by deaf mute

THE parents of Passakorn Sangkhee – a 29-year-old deaf and mute Bang Rachan man sentenced to 20 years jail almost a decade ago for a 2008 murder – broke down in tears after Sing Buri Provincial Court on Tuesday read the Supreme Court’s verdict to keep him in jail.

Bt7 million set aside to catch drunk drivers who break new lower limit

THE Public Health Ministry has provided Bt7 million to fund blood alcohol testing on people involved in suspected drunk driving accidents during the ‘Seven dangerous days’ of Songkran, permanent secretary Dr Sopon Mekthon said on Tuesday.

PHUKET:-- A man caught on CCTV pocketing a mobile phone belonging to one of the two teenagers crushed to death by a garbage truck in Phuket yesterday afternoon has returned the phone amid an outpouring of outrage on Thai social media sites.
