Burmese police seized thousands of detonators and ammunition in a search of the liaison office of the United Wa State Army (UWSA) in Lashio on Saturday, according to The Irrawaddy Online report on Wednesday.

The search followed a shooting incident in which the liaison office deputy economic coordinator fired a gun during a dispute with his wife at her home in Taunggy on April 7.

The officer was arrested and his gun and ammunition confiscated by the police in Taunggy.

The President’s Office spokesperson U Zaw Htay said the government was trying to communicate with the UWSA headquarters regarding the storage of detonators and explosive materials at the liaison office which is supposed to serve the purpose of smoothing relations between UWSA and the government.
