BANGKOK: -- Hundreds of thousands of Songkran revellers are expected to return to Bangkok on buses today after the long holiday.

The Transport Company’s deputy managing director Nopparat Karunyavanich said he expected more than 170,000 revellers to arrive today at three bus terminals, Chatuchak, Ekkamai, and Borommaratchonnani.

Only at Morchit bus terminal, 80,000 are to arrive today from 04.00 am – 08.00 pm.

He said the Transport Company has coordinated with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority and taxi cooperatives to arrange enough buses and taxis to the three bus terminals to facilitate the arriving passengers during 04.00 am-08.00 am, and 4.00 pm-8.00 pm.

Thanks to all Bangkokians for coming and dropping your bahts here. In a rather small way it makes up for the financial short comings of your mother city. Hope you get home safely as the surge begins

What happened to the 34 million other Thais traveling for Songkran? Just less than two weeks ago there  was a report that 1/2 the ENTIRE population of Thailand was traveling for Songkran!! I guess they all took their cars or went by train lol.

They probably chose a different bus station...  Or took the train.  Or flew.  Or took a personal vehicle.  Or didn't start and end their journey in BKK.

If you actually believe that 1/2 the population of Thailand travels for Songkran you should really work for TAT. That is completely utterly a hugely puffed up figure.

One of my friends went with his family (daughter 7yrs, son 5yrs and Thai wife) by plane to Ubon Ratchathani last week to their inland hangout and was planning to return on Monday. Monday morning at the airport, 2 seats were overbooked. The children could take another flight on Wednesday, Thai solution... They all came back by train this morning. They all were divided in several wagons. Not even one monkey was trading places. Pure Thai egoism, selfish bastards !!!

Sounds like another Sonkran is almost over.  The deaths and accidents and injuries are still way too high

for TAT or the government to clap themselves on the back for any reason.

The Mia Pen Rai attitude of the Thai drivers will continue and keep the stats high for another 20 years.

that is my estimate anyway. Sad, but True!

Geezer
