Police to investigate fire in Ayutthaya ancient palace

AYUTTHAYA, 18 April 2017 (NNT) – Police are yet to investigate a fire incident at a building inside Ayuttahaya Ancient Palace compound.

Ayutthaya provincial police chief Pot Maj Gen Sutti Puangpikul, along with Deputy Fine Arts Department Director General Prateep Phengtako and Ayutthaya Historical Park director Sukanya Baonert, visited the 3D model display building which was burned out in the blaze in the night.

The building is located inside Wat Phra Si Sanphet the ancient palace compound in Ayutthaya which was build using 3-5 million baht budget.

According to the Fine Arts Department, electricity to this building has been cut since August 2016 as it was struck by lightning once.

The provincial police chief said assumptions have been set with probable causes being arson, accidental fire from cigarette butt, or an error in the electricity system.

He said police officers were ordered to speed up the investigation to find out the cause of the fire in all suspicious aspects.
