The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) plans to restructure its work, placing more focus on certain bureaus so as to be more effective in going after wrongdoers.

The new NACC organic bill is one of 10 organic laws required by the new charter. The first reading of the first two bills concerning political parties and the Election Commission sailed through the National Legislative Assembly on Friday.

NACC chairman Pol General Watcharapol Prasarnratchakij said at the seminar on Friday that the agency is considering adjusting its work so that their current eight bureaus would be more in line with the stipulations of the new charter.

The first bureau of the NACC focuses on political office holders, but the second to fourth that look into corruption cases related to local administration and natural resources need to refocus their efforts on national-level cases as the NACC has provincial offices to help take care of local corruption related to those crimes, he said.

“We need to prioritise our work, and more efforts should be made to bring to justice those causing extensive damage to the country, including crimes involving natural resource exploitation, “said Watcharapol.
