Cyclist accom in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hi,

heading up to CM for a week of offroad MTB'ing in May.

Does anyone have advice on where to stay, in the city, which is bike friendly. Looking at sub-1000B per night, if possible.

Don't want to be anywhere with heaps of Russians or Chinese.

Cheers.

No big hotels and buffets. I find it convenient to stay in the Nimman area, avoiding the noisy spots like monkeyclub etc. Plenty of choices at different price points, and easy to get that laundry done!

Assuming that most of your off road riding will be west of the city, the CMU area, Nimmanhaemin, and Santitham are your best bets.

Nimmanhaemin is constantly changing. I lived on Nimman Soi 9 for 6 years, just down the block from the previously mentioned Monkey Club. (It closed over a year ago, but was never noisy unless you were standing out front.) With new bars and condos opening on a weekly or monthly schedule, a hotel that was quiet last month might be over a bar or a construction site today. a room in the front of one hotel might be quiet, but in the back, noisy. The good news is CM is an early city. It gets quiet by 11:00 to midnight.

You can avoid the Chinese tour groups by not staying in the big mid-priced hotels. But in the past two years a bunch of small places have opened up to accommodate the individual Chinese travelers.

In your price range you would definitely be better off near CMU (west of Canal Rd) or Santitham. Hundreds of places to stay. Book one night. Move if it's too noisy.
