NLA vetting panel puts deliberation of some parts of political parties bill on hold

By The Nation

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) committee vetting the political parties organic bill has put on hold the deliberation of some of its controversial articles, including the clauses requiring a capital fund of Bt1 million per party.

Wallop Tangkananurak, spokesman of the committee, said during a press briefing yesterday that the panel had completed deliberating on at least 15 articles.

However, some clauses have been put on hold or have not yet been agreed upon.

The committee has not yet settled on the membership-fee issue, he said, explaining that some members agreed with the collection of an Bt100 annual fee, while others did not.

Wallop added that deliberation was now expected to be completed before May 20, as the NLA would be taking a retreat trip to Chanthaburi on May 20 and 21.

During the retreat, the law-vetting committees will answer all inquiries from the NLA concerning the two bills on political parties and the Election Commission, the spokesman said.

The second and the third readings of both bills are tentatively scheduled for June 8 and June 15.
