I don't see anything suggesting Kim is the reason the latest economic developments have happened. He seems to have stepped aside because his regime may only be able to survive because of what the private sector is accomplishing. Nothing to me suggests that any of this is the business acumen or political savvy of Kim.

 

As I said it is happening because his hold on it is diminishing, which is probably a good part of the reason he is bringing his country to the brink of annihilation. He knows his days are numbered.

 

Aside from this side tangent we can get back to the topic of NK saying this brings them to the brink of nuclear war. It isn't about the 2 dozen junk shops that sprung up in NK selling pirated Chinese goods and Coca Cola as amazing as those developments seem to you.

Interesting interviews.  The young girl said you could pay off border soldiers so they didn't shoot you escaping.  Kim Jong Un sounds like he's become more brutal that his Father.  Perhaps it is darkest before the light.

                       Also, Trump has very little stick-withitness.  He wants to lob bombs from thousands of miles away, but has no inclination for follow-up.   Similar to GH Bush's quick win against the Iraqi army in the First Gulf War.  Coalition forces, led by the US, made amazing gains, but Bush put on the brakes at the Iraq border.  His soldiers could have driven all the way to, and occupied Baghdad, but he told them to stop.   That led to Iraq II, and nearly 2 decades later, American forces are still bogged down there.

 

                          I'm against war with N.Korea (I prefer a "let sleeping dogs lay" policy), but if Trump is going to engage, he should have at least a little bit of combat smarts and daring.  I see him wilting at the first US casualty.

You have it all wrong. Kim is a business leader who is a specialist in reforming the economy. Some people think (including anybody who has ever lived in NK) that he is an insane murderer, whose grip on power is slipping. 

 

Now he can not pretend to be a God anymore and those days are up he needs to do something to prove who he is. The amount of people inside his own country wanting his head on a stick isn't small. The guy has nothing left to lose as he can no longer control the information coming in about him and the flow of money. So you have a murderous dictator in charge who is essentially spinning out of control and continues to threaten his neighbors with nuclear weapons.

 

 

What could possibly go wrong? Let's wait until he can threaten Tokyo. We never moved on the previous of his ilk because they weren't nearly as unstable as this guy is.

It won't be a conventional war. It will be the USA bombing NK. The SK will absorb all of the "collateral" damage for the most part. The USA doesn't have much to lose in all of this. We won't be trying to rebuild NK we will be trying to destroy it and if that is the only goal the USA can do a sufficient job. 

 

Again Kim is afraid from sources inside and outside of his realm of power. He is basically one of the most hated men alive in his own country. He can't keep the truth of what he is out of the public realm from much longer. He doesn't live to see 35 no matter what. He might as well go out with a bang. 

 

North Korea must be stopped before it's missiles threaten Japan and the situation gets worse.
